About the Session
Far too many imaging organizations continue with the daily struggle of legacy Imaging IT. We replace our cellphones every year or two, but imaging organizations with highly trained, highly compensated radiologists toil day in and day out with legacy systems with significant limitations. Those limitations lead to frustrations, which lead to burnout and chronic challenges because the core Imaging IT systems they use are 10, 15 or more than 20 years old. Technology that was born last century, still being used today. The logo on the side of the hospital may be shiny and respected, but the technologies are often challenging to use and maintain.
We don’t talk about the embarrassment struggle nearly enough as a community (poor performance, workflow/feature gaps, security risks and care impediments). Each organization has their own journey, but legacy systems persist for a number of reasons – the fear of change, lack of leadership, conflicting priorities, lack of budget and political quagmires.
The good news is that the cycle of pain does not last forever, it will end as imaging informatics professionals address the challenges head on. Learn from your imaging peers how they successfully moved up the priority list, attained budget, implemented modern imaging IT solutions, and decommissioned their legacy technology.
Objectives
- Identify potential areas of struggles when managing legacy systems, the impact on operations and patient care, and how institutions were able to shine a positive light on those limitations by directly addressing the challenges head on.
- Describe how imaging organizations similar to yours made it through the frustrations of daily fire drills, and successfully attained budget to replace their failing legacy systems.
-
Discuss successful implementations and learn how these imaging organizations were able to decommission their legacy systems and adapt with a modern technology stack.
