About the Session

The advent of digital pathology has revolutionized the field of pathology, offering unprecedented opportunities for improved diagnostic accuracy, enhanced collaboration, and streamlined workflows. However, the lack of standardized protocols and guidelines for the electronic practice of digital pathology remains a significant barrier to its full potential. This session will delve into the necessity of creating a technical standard for the electronic practice of medical imaging in digital pathology, akin to the ACR–AAPM–SIIM Technical Standard for Electronic Practice of Medical Imaging.

Drawing from the preamble and introduction of the ACR–AAPM–SIIM technical standard, this presentation will explore the foundational elements that such a standard should encompass. We will discuss the goals, qualifications of personnel, equipment guidelines, data management specifications, and quality control procedures essential for ensuring high-quality digital pathology practices. The session will highlight how these standards can facilitate accurate image acquisition, secure data transmission and storage, timely retrieval and display, and efficient distribution and archiving of digital pathology images and data.

Join us in this insightful session to gain a comprehensive understanding of the importance of technical standards in digital pathology, learn about the proposed framework, and explore practical strategies for implementation. Together, we can pave the way for consistent, high-quality electronic practices that enhance patient care and drive the field of pathology forward.

This session is presented in collaboration with the Digital Pathology Association (DPA).
