About the Session

The term ‘agentic AI’ is everywhere. A working technical model of how it actually functions in healthcare operations is harder to find. This session goes inside the architecture: how agentic systems reason across inputs, how decision logic is designed, how human escalation points are built into clinical workflows, and how these systems integrate with existing EHR, RIS, and PACS environments.

Presenters will walk through the technical foundations of agentic AI, then connect that architecture to radiology operations — referral intake, appointment scheduling, inbound call management, provider communications and prior image retrieval. Attendees will leave with a practical mental model for deploying agentic AI in their own organizations.

Objectives

  • Explain how agentic AI systems are architecturally structured — including decision logic, workflow sequencing, and human escalation design — and how they differ meaningfully from traditional software systems and rule-based automation tools.
  • Describe the practical requirements for deploying agentic AI in imaging environments: integration with EHR, RIS, and PACS systems; how exception handling is designed to keep staff in control; and what real-world implementation inside a health system actually involves.
  • Discuss how agentic AI architecture translates to measurable operational outcomes in radiology — including referral intake processing, appointment scheduling, inbound call management, provider communications, and prior imaging retrieval — along with a framework for assessing organizational readiness.
