About the Session
Interoperability standards like HL7 and DICOM are essential for integrating AI into clinical workflows. Yet, inconsistent vendor adoption often leads to custom integrations, which can increase operational burdens. To highlight the value of standards and reduce reliance on custom solutions, RSNA hosts “AI, Innovation, and Interoperability in Practice” demonstrations. These live, scenario-based demos showcase how standards and integration profiles support AI result generation, consumption, and analysis across the imaging chain—from acquisition to follow-up—across clinical specialties such as neuroradiology and cardiothoracic imaging.
This session offers a behind-the-scenes look at the demonstration initiative, beginning with an overview for newcomers. A walkthrough of a specific clinical use case will follow, spotlighting technical workflows and integration strategies. Attendees will hear from clinical leaders and engineers who collaborate on these efforts, reflecting real-world teamwork. The session wraps with key lessons from past demos and a call to action: to better leverage standards in vendor contracts and requests for proposals. Participants will leave with practical insights to initiate informed conversations around interoperability with vendors and peers in the AI and imaging informatics community.
Objectives
- Recognize common standards and integration profiles for radiology workflow and AI solution integration.
- Discuss the role of interoperability demonstrations to educate AI solution users and vendors.
- Demonstrate a real-world clinical scenario the conforms to standards and complies with integration profiles.
- Identify opportunities to attend future demonstrations showcasing the latest standards and integration profiles.
