As professor of AI in radiotherapy, Peter van Ooijen’s main research focus is the application of machine learning and deep learning into medical imaging for detection, segmentation, diagnosis, treatment and prediction of cancer. At the Data Science Center in Health of the UMCG he is coordinating the Machine Learning Lab. At the University of Groningen’s Jantina Tammes School for Digital Society and AI he is the Theme Coordinator digital healthcare. For the 2023-2025 term he is the president of the European Society of Medical Informatics (EuSoMII).
