Michael Hood, MD is an Emergency and Trauma Radiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital and Instructor in Radiology at Harvard Medical School. He serves as the Enterprise Service Chief of Radiography at Mass General Brigham, the first to hold this system-wide role overseeing radiographic imaging operations. His research focuses on radiology informatics, innovation in operations, structured reporting, ontology development, and transforming radiology from isolated reports into longitudinal patient knowledge systems. He has developed frameworks including the Imaging Problem List and the Common Anatomic Location Index, now being integrated into RadLex.

Smart Semantics: Transforming Narratives to Actionable Data
Presented by Tarik Alkasab, MD, PhD, Michael Hood, MD, Namita Gandhi, MD, MScHI , Audrey Verde, MD, PhD in Radiology Jun 10, 2026 | 5:15 PM.
Radiology is increasingly dependent on structured, interoperable data to support clinical decision-making, workflow efficiency, and responsible AI development. This session introduces a cohesive framework connecting three essential components of radiology data standardization: Common Data Elements (CDEs), RadLex, and the Open Imaging Data Model (OIDM). Together, these tools enable consistent documentation of imaging observations, semantic interoperability across…
